This introductory course provides students with a comprehensive foundation in public speaking through the study and practice of effective oral communication. Students will master the fundamental principles of speech preparation and delivery, learn to analyze audiences and craft purposeful messages, and develop critical listening skills essential for both speaking and civic engagement.
Through structured practice and peer feedback, the course aims to increase student confidence and poise when addressing groups, while exploring how listening and perception enhance speaking abilities. Beyond developing practical communication skills for academic and professional settings, the course examines the vital role of public speaking in democratic participation and in fulfilling our responsibilities as engaged citizens in our communities.
